Capable Learning Environments

Capable environments are environments that support students thrive and develop. In capable environments behaviours that challenge are less frequent and pupils are ready to learn. One of the foundation values of Positive Behaviour Support is the focus on fixing the environment around a person, not the person. Therefore, by adapting the environment we can support our young people to minimise behaviours that challenge and improve their quality of life. In order to promote positive and appropriate behaviour, the learning environment must be both supportive and functional. In this twilight we will be exploring ways to create capable environments and will look into the sensory considerations to maintain them.
